through legal support, community building, and storytelling

The timeline of change

Reimagining justice takes time. We’ve built our programs with an immediate, near-term, and long-term approach to create change now, tomorrow, and far into the future.

Immediate

Free legal services and resources to prevent deportation

Near-Term

Narrative change through stories and art

Long-Term

Building community power alongside local immigrant-led organizations

Disrupting current systems with legal representation

The current legal system fails to provide equitable access to justice. It oppresses and excludes low-income communities of color, harming immigrants and their families.

PLAN provides free civil legal services to low-income, non-detained immigrants facing deportation in the Phoenix Immigration Court.

We aim to bend the current systems in our favor.

Changing anti-immigrant narratives through storytelling

Too often the story of immigration is told by mainstream media and government institutions. These narratives often “other” immigrants and create hostility against immigrant communities.

PLAN creates opportunities for immigrants to tell their stories so we can shift anti-immigrant perspectives.

We’re changing the narrative through storytelling.

Building community power with immigrant-led organizations

More than 17,000 immigrants currently have pending cases with the Phoenix Immigration Court. The need for legal support far exceeds the number of legal professionals available.

PLAN partners with immigrant-led organizations to engage people in community organizing and advocacy, empower immigrants to be their own advocates, create community-led solutions to local needs, and develop educational programs that build legal knowledge within local communities.

We’re working in solidarity with local leaders.

Democratizing legal knowledge

Current legal systems historically exclude low-income communities of color. Legal knowledge is commonly only held by lawyers and other legal professionals. This information is often inaccessible to those who need it most.

PLAN believes everyone should have access to the information they need to be their own advocates.

Our knowledge center organizes valuable resources from trusted organizations and answers common questions about immigration law in Arizona.
